Over $128,500 Raised So Far, More is Still Needed!

In a whirlwind-fast fundraiser, the Archives fund has exceeded its original goal.  The capstone was a $25,000 grant from the Margaret and Martha Thomas Foundation, of Wymore, enabling us to break ground on April 7, using an antique spade belonging to John E. Jones, Wymore pioneer farmer, grandfather of Berwyn Jones.  The general contractor, Goossen Construction of Beatrice, has torn up the old concrete, and will pour the footings if the rain would ever stop!  GPWHP President Berwyn Jones says, “The response to our request has been amazing.  Our friends have really come through for us! 150 individuals have given, and I can scarcely think of a US State from which donation has not been received.  However, costs have a way of rising, as unforeseen events occur.  We’ve already encountered two unexpected expenses.  Plus, we still need to renovate the old archive room into an expansion of the Library.  We will soon be facing the need to replace an inefficient old furnace in the main building, and the front façade is getting very dilapidated.”

We hope that the success so far will inspire others to add their contributions to the fund, so that next October we can dedicate a completely remodeled library as well as a new Archives.

Go online to www.WelshHeritage.org, and use a credit card or PayPal.  Please help.
